We left right on time and before we even got on the freeway, Lewey had made his way over to Drew's lap and threw up all over him. We had to pull over and get a clean pair of jeans out of the suitcase for Drew to change into. There's dirty pants #2.
When you travel with a dog, you have to call the airline before hand and make sure they will allow the dog on board. We've done this numerous times and have never had a problem. When we got to the ticket counter at US Airways (worst airline ever and the last time we will ever buy a ticket for their airline), they informed us that Lewey was too big for his carrier and would not be allowed to board the plane. They require all dogs to be able to stand up and turn around in their carrier. If we had a carrier that was any bigger, it would be too big to be allowed on the plane. So basically, there was no way they would allow Lewey on their plane. They are the only airline that has these strict rules. After standing at the ticket counter for an hour and a half, wondering how we were going to work this out, they switched our flight to a different airline. So we made our way over to the United counter where within 5 minutes, we had our new tickets, baggage checked (for free) and Lewey all squared away.
We thought our luck was getting better when we made our way over to security. Because we had switched airlines at the last minute, we were marked for extra security. There is nothing like watching your husband getting patted down by an old guy. By this time, we were annoyed and very hungry. Our new flight left 3 hours after our original flight so we had plenty of time to kill in the airport. Both Ben and Lewey were little angels and we got boarded on the plane and settled in. Ben was wanting to move everywhere and was talking away. We had about ten minutes left until we landed and Ben had just had some milk. Either the milk didn't agree with him or he was getting motion sickness but he threw up multiple times all over himself, Drew and Lewey (and possibly the guy sitting in front of us). Nothing smells worst than sour milk and everyone within a three row radius could probably smell it. There goes dirty pants #3 and 4 (Drew and Ben).
By the time we got off the plane and made our way to Cary and Loree, we were a mess. Ben had nothing but his diaper and jacket on (the only clean clothes we had left in the diaper bag), Drew's pants were wet all over and we all smelt like sour milk. We already had a full load of dirty clothes.
Despite our rough day on Saturday, we've all recovered and we are enjoying our time with Drew's parents. Tomorrow morning, Drew, Ben and I are taking the train into San Francisco. Hopefully this trip goes a little better.
